Mother’s Day Photo shoot – Aviva Studios Kelowna Portrait Photography

By Liz | April 22, 2015

I had the pleasure of photographing this amazing mom and her two boys this past Monday night. We chose a gorgeous location overlooking the kelowna and the Okanagan Valley – a place that was very significant to Jennifer (the amazing mom). I just love these photos and the connection between Jenn and her boys. It was such a fun shoot filled with laughter. Thanks Jenn!! xoxoMother's Day portrait

Highschool Graduation – Aviva Studios Kelowna Photographer

By Liz | January 30, 2015

Do you know someone that is graduating this year? This is such a milestone for teens… a time where they get to step out into their own journey and discover who they really are. I love photographing teens – they are so much fun to work with! If you know some one or have a child that is approaching graduation – it is such a great time to gift them with a fun photo shoot – not just with a cap and gown but a session that reveals who they really are – letting their personality shine through.Teen graduate

Winter Family Portraits – Kelowna Photographer Aviva Studios

By Liz | January 16, 2015

Well winter has certainly arrived and as usual the Christmas season always bring families together creating a great opportunity for family portraits.

This past Christmas (boxing day actually) I got to photograph Jim, Leslie and their three beautiful boys at Father Pandosy in Kelowna, BC. We were lucky to have no snow that day so we got some great photos and were still fairly warm! Snow can make for great photos as well (I’ll post some of those soon) but I’ll be honest… I like to be warm and dry :)

Thank you for having take your photos Leslie and Jim – such a privilege!

Fun Family Portrait Locations – Aviva Okanagan Photographer

By Liz | November 27, 2014

I love it when my families want to do something a little different. Meet the Sokolowska Family… they LOVE football! They are so much fun together and I had a blast photographing them at the Apple Bowl here in Kelowna. They wanted to do something that really reflected who they are and I was all for it. It was raining when we arrived and we were all a little doubtful that it would come together but the shoot turned out amazing and we all had a great time! Sokolowska 006

Yao Family Portraits – Aviva Studios Kelowna

By Liz | November 5, 2014

I was so excited to get a call from Betty a few weeks ago. I met Betty and her family at her sister’s wedding a few years ago where I got to photograph her family. Since then she has been busy creating the most amazing skirts from upcycled sweaters – each one totally unique and beautifully made. She wanted some photos of them and asked if I could help. I was excited to see them and for the opportunity to photograph them. Since her beautiful daughters were going to be the models she decided to do some family photos while we were at it. It was a great shoot and we had the most perfect light and temperature for it. Thanks Betty for the opportunity!

Okanagan Wedding at Harvest Golf & Country… ahhhhh….

By Liz | August 8, 2014

Tanis and Gunnar truly lucked out with weather on their wedding day! The Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before their wedding was just miserable (especially for here in the Okanagan!) It was rainy and cool – and not just a little dirzzle of rain – full on downpours – but on Friday the 25th, it cleared up beautifully, the temperature was a lovely 28 degrees – an absolutely perfect day for a wedding!

We started with them getting ready at a local hotel and started our photo session at the beautiful Guisachan house in Kelowna. This place has some beautiful gardens and buildings that make some great backdrops for photos!

After a little time there we continued to the Harvest Golf Course where we did some more group and couple photos until it was time for the ceremony. Two great locations to work with!

I feel so lucky to be a wedding photographer here in the beautiful Okanagan. Kelowna has some amazing backdrops for wedding photography.

Who is going to photograph YOUR wedding?!?

By Liz | July 24, 2014

That was the most frequent question asked in the months leading up to my own wedding this July… and rightfully so because people are curious who a wedding photographer would choose to shoot their wedding. It’s a big decision for anyone but for me it was easy. When one of your closest friends is not only a photographer, but an amazing one that you work with and have a studio together here in Kelowna… it’s not a hard decision at all. Carolyn Carson  – you are amazing!

What did I learn from my personal experience? I’ve been shooting weddings for almost 15 years and I consider myself a pretty experienced veteran in this industry. I have worked with enough brides to know the process. Plus I had been married before – I knew what it was all about – the stress involved, the anticipation… but did I really?

The first time around for me doesn’t really count – not because it didn’t last (it was a wonderful 12 years for me and I’m grateful for that time) but we eloped… it’s not the same. We planned a 3 month journey through Europe and decided to get married while we were there. We knew before we left what we wanted to do and researched the countries where we could do it and decided on Greece. We contacted the Greek equivalent of a marriage commissioner and let them know when we would be there. Once we arrived on Santorini Island we took 1 day to make arrangements – flowers, location, found a restaurant to have dinner… that was pretty much it! It was wonderful and ridiculously easy and stress-free.

This time though – it was important to my husband and I that we include our families and friends.

I began to get excited about the party and the details and how it would all come together. I began daydreaming about it – spending all of my time thinking about what I wanted to do and what I wanted it to look like. Then I started to get overwhelmed… so many decisions! So many details… how would I possibly get it all done?

Then I remembered what I say to all of my brides who’s weddings I photograph… “enjoy every moment because it will pass by so quickly” I realized that the planning, every list I wrote out, and every errand was part of my wedding experience. I decided that enjoying every moment wasn’t just good advice for the wedding day itself but also the planning process. I took deep breaths and approached every task with joy and anticipation. I can truly say that I enjoyed every moment leading up to my wedding and especially on the big day. I wanted to remember nothing but joy. I had been a part of too many weddings where people got frustrated and worked into a frenzy wasting precious moments being angry and irritated. I knew I didn’t want to do that on my day.
