Happy New Year!
I want to start off 2009 with a message to everyone – wishing you all a wonderful new year with much love and good health!
It’s the start of another new year and as usual the time for resolutions. This year I am planning on doing a few things… get back into shape with my friends at Blackbelts Gym here in Lake Country, publish my first book of portrait photography here in the Okanagan to raise money for KGH (stay tuned for more info on this exciting program!) and to simply live more in the moment.
As I watch my daughter grow and morph into a little girl from the baby I am so used to – I am once again shocked by how quickly time passes. When I look back and ask myself if I have made the most of each moment – sadly the answer is no – I haven’t. With moving to a new place, traveling for work way more than usual and with constant reminders from the media of the current state of our economy – I have succumbed to the stresses that go along with it – but with meditation and help from my friend Eccart Tolle (author of ‘A New Earth’) I am learning tools that help me be in the moment and thus realizing that worry is very unnecessary.
I feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful family, a beautiful place in which to live and to be able to do what I love – every day. Photography is an outlet for me in many ways – I get to create beautiful images for people that last a lifetime, I am able to work with amazing new people every day and now that my hubby Mike is working with me – I get to spend more time with the love of my life and work at the same time. Actually ‘work’ is the wrong word for it because it really doesn’t feel like work at all 🙂
Portrait photography is changing here in the Okanagan – as it is everywhere. It’s not just about taking a portrait of someone – it’s about capturing their true essence and personality so that the images truly grab your attention and give some insight into that person.
I’m very excited about the year ahead – about creating some great images, exploring the Okanagan Valley even more and finding new ways to become involved in the community.
I hope each and every one of you finds peace and joy in the year ahead and that you too will live each moment to the fullest!
