It’s Fall Family Portrait Season!

Fall family portrait

Fall is a great time for family portraits and it also seems to be the most popular time for most families. It seems that once kids are settled back in school and the regular routine of life is back in order and then realization that Christmas is just around the corner hits – families start to think about family portraits.

Fall offers a beautiful array of colors and with slightly cooler temperatures we get to pull out our favorites sweaters, wraps, jackets and boots which all makes make for great photos! We are also very fortunate to be in the Okanagan – with our endless orchards, vineyards, farmland and beautiful mountains – we are never short on location choices. Kelowna, Peachland, Vernon, Penticton  all offer lots of great spots. If you’re not quite sure of where to do your photos just give me a call and we can chat about different options. I’m happy to brainstorm with you and come up with the perfect spot for your family portraits.

Some things to keep in mind when planning your family session is time of day and what to wear. The sun is lower in the sky this time of year so it’s more acceptable to shoot mid day especially when proper shade is available. As for wardrobe – it’s always great to focus on earth tones this time of year since mother nature’s colors are so vibrant. It always looks great to blend with the environment. As always I suggest that people stay away from any patterns, fonts or large logos as it can be very distracting in photos.

With larger groups it can be a bit harder to coordinate perfectly – especially when family members are coming from all around. Simply tell your family to focus on solid colors and stick to earth tones. If each smaller family unit all go together they can be placed together within the larger group to help create continuity.

If you are thinking of booking a session I do suggest to do it early as the fall season is very short. Call and reserve your  session as early as possible to get the best weather and fall colors!
